Whether the Raiders stay or leave could hinge on a few parking lots

Oakland fans won't have to search for street parking if their iconic football team stays in town.

So promises mayor Libby Schaaf, who conceded 8,000 parking spaces at the Coliseum site that stalled earlier negotiations with the Raiders.

Schaaf, via the Contra Costa Times: "We're asking the Raiders to give us the time and attention to show that this can be done. We never were able to get to the level of detail where they could see how we can leave room for development and still have the parking and tailgating they want."

Team owner Mark Davis highlighted the parking spots as a major sticking point. Without them, Raiders fans would have to park in multi-level structures off-limits to tailgaters.

The team probably won't get what they really want from Schaaf and the city -- and that's public money. But this concession with parking, coupled with another promise for favorable rent prices, could force Davis to re-examine his whole relocation stance.

Said Schaaf: "Up until the last few hours, Mark has said consistently that his preference is Oakland. I intend to do everything I can to rekindle that feeling."
