What Quandre Diggs lacks in speed, size he makes up for with his instincts

Former Texas defensive back, and current Detroit Lions sixth-round pick Quandre Diggs' football instincts are outstanding. Despite his lack of size – he’s 5-foot-9, 196 pounds -- and his less-than-elite speed – he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds -- it's that instinctual knowledge that attracted Lions' defensive backs coach Tony Oden, according to an M Live article.

"If you can anticipate what the offense is going to do, and you can recognize it and be able to pull the trigger, even though you may not be as fast as someone else, you can react fast because you know that it's coming," Oden told the website. "He's that kind of guy."

Diggs’ 40 time is the slowest of any defensive back general manager Martin Mayhew has drafted during his tenure in Detroit. 

However, beyond the high praise given to Diggs by Oden and Mayhew, Diggs himself told M Live why he thinks he can play in the NFL.

"Don't let the speed fool you," Diggs told the site. "Don't let the hype fool you. 'I'm a competitor, and I can go out and play the game. I can get those things done."
