Well-traveled Kourtnei Brown hoping to find right fit in Houston

After being cut seven times over three years linebacker Kourntei Brown decided he wasn't going to give up on his NFL dreams.

Now, after a strong showing through the Houston Texans' first two preseason games, Brown may be on the verge of seeing his persistence rewarded with a spot on the 53-man roster.

In Houston's preseason opener against the San Franscisco 49ers, Brown led the team with two sacks. Last week against the Denver Broncos, Brown picked off a Brock Osweiler pass and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown.

“Kourtnei Brown, there’s a guy that’s gone out and taken advantage of the preseason games,” Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said, per the Houston Chronicle. “The guy has really improved in his time here, so he’s made a name for himself. He’s in the discussion to make the football team, no doubt about it.”

After failing to stick in stints with the 49ers, Bills, Rams, Redskins and Lions, the 27-year-old Brown thinks he's finally found the right situation in Houston.

“I’ve been told ‘no’ a lot or, ‘our roster is full,’ but it’s just made me more determined,” Brown said.

“Everything I’ve been through will just make it that much sweeter when I finally make a roster.

“For whatever reason, I haven’t been able to find that right fit, but I feel good here. I want to make this my home. I want to be a part of this football team. I’ve waited a long time for this.”

Brown will get another chance to make his case for a roster spot in Houston's third preseason game on Sunday against New Orleans.

“I’ve always felt like I had what it takes to play in the NFL,” Brown said. “I just needed time to develop. I’m getting great coaching. I’m reacting more and thinking less. This means everything to me. I’ve put everything I have into this. It’s a blessing to be here.”
