WATCH: Bad as the Butt Fumble? Jets' Marshall makes his pitch

There was the Butt Fumble, and then there was this. Brandon Marshall added to the Jets' history of embarrassing blunders in the second quarter against the Eagles on Sunday as he caught a pass and attempted to lateral the ball to a trailing teammate.

The Eagles recovered the fumble and returned it 11 yards to the Jets' 36-yard line.

The pass had already gone for 16 yards and a first down as the Jets were driving toward midfield, so Marshall's attempt to flip it backward while falling to the ground was surprising to say the least.

It's the type of play a receiver might try on the final play of the game but certainly not with more than four minutes left in the second quarter.

The Eagles turned Marshall's boneheaded move into seven points and extended their lead to 24-0.

Yes, Jets fans, the Butt Fumble was bad, but Marshall's lateral was on purpose.
