
Watch: Aretha Franklin performs four-minute national anthem


If you took the over on the length of the national anthem before Thanksgiving’s first NFL game, you won in commanding fashion.
74-year-old Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” sat down in front of a piano and microphone in Detroit before the Lions hosted the Vikings to begin the holiday to sing the anthem, and absolutely killed it. It was a bit on the long side—lasting around four-and-a-half minutes—but it was a memorable rendition.

The average time of the anthem at the Super Bowl these days is around two minutes, so this was quite, quite long.
