Vikings QB says he suffered freak injury after breaking into his own home

It's tough to argue with him -- not about the injury, but about the movie. "The Conjuring 2" has an 80 percent approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes. So there is that. It's just too bad that Heinicke, a person who makes a living based in part on his hand-eye coordination and above-average athleticism, was unable to control his own strength in the moment where he tried to break into his own house. Then again, who hasn't been there?

Heinicke told reporters that the resulting laceration near his left ankle will require surgery, but that he hopes to be recovered in time for the regular-season opener.

Far be it for me to cast doubt on anyone's injury tale, but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out a similar story from earlier this summer. Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden broke his elbow this offseason, and a Cowboys coach originally told reporters that the injury occurred when McFadden dropped his cell phone and he attempted to catch it before it hit the ground.

Of course, it later came out that McFadden in fact slipped and fell in a friend's backyard, which caused the injury.

Either way, let these NFL players stand as a reminder to be careful during the dog days of summer. It's easy to slip into an overly relaxed state and make a decision that costs you.
