Vikings CB Waynes picks perfect time to record first career INT

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Trae Waynes was a top draft pick last spring, but the highly touted rookie didn't record his first NFL interception until Sunday's Wild Card matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.

When Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had a third-quarter attempt tipped into the air, Waynes was there to pick off the errant pass.

The turnover led to a field goal that gave Minnesota a 6-0 lead.

Waynes was the 11th-overall pick in the 2015 draft, but he wasn't a huge contributor on defense during the regular season. Although he played in 15 games, he only earned one start as the team's top reserve cornerback. 

Terence Newman, who was injured and replaced by Waynes on Sunday, will be 38 years old next season. Once he's ready to turn over the starting job for good, the Vikings should have two young corners locking down the outsides in Waynes and Xavier Rhodes.

Waynes' interception against the Seahawks served as a promising sign for this future lineup.
