(Video) Derek Carr makes two-point conversion in comeback

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr continued to establish himself as a rising NFL star by  engineering the most exciting comeback of the day.

The Oakland Raiders got a much tougher matchup than they bargained for in their season opener, with the New Orleans Saints making the visiting foes fight for the win after taking a 24-10 lead in the third quarter. However, the Raiders refused to quit, as quarterback Derek Carr threw a clutch touchdown pass to Seth Roberts with only 47 seconds left. The Raiders’ third-year quarterback then rewarded head coach Jack Del Rio’s faith in him with a two-point conversion.

The Raiders took a 35-34 lead after Carr threw a flawless pass to Michael Crabtree. However, the Raiders found themselves in a vulnerable position once again when Drew Brees fiercely engineered his Saints into field goal position with a couple of long tosses. The Saints eventually found themselves in field goal range with five seconds left on the clock.

Saints kicker Wil Lutz attempted a 61-yard field goal, but he was unable to drill it through the uprights. Despite a long enough kick, the ball eventually hooked wide left at the last second for a heartbreaking loss for the Saints. This gutsy comeback victory confirms the Raiders’ status as a serious playoff contender.

Carr finished with 319 passing yards and a touchdown on 24-of-38 passing. His sole touchdown came at the perfect time for the Raiders, though. Brees’ efforts were wasted, but his numbers were astronomical. The veteran finished with 423 yards and three touchdown passes on 28-of-42 passing.

However, the Saints still have many questions facing their defense since they allowed 35 points and could not come through in clutch moments.
