Victor Cruz expects to be ready for regular season opener
At the beginning of last week, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was excited to announce that all restrictions had been removed from his practice schedule and he was gearing up to play in live game action during the preseason. Later last week, Cruz missed practice with a calf injury that has now sidelined him for almost a week.
Despite the fact that his preseason playing opportunity is now in danger, Cruz has no doubt that he will be ready to suit up for the Giants' regular season opener.
"It's just a matter of getting back out there, so I think that's my goal to be ready Week 1, and in the interim make sure I'm getting myself ready back here when you guys are not watching," Cruz told reporters, per the Tampa Tribune via the Associated Press. "I feel good, I feel confident that I'll be OK come Week 1."
Cruz would benefit from live game action. Until now, he has only participated during team drills against another team in a single joint practice against the Bengals. The Giants will play it smart, however, and Cruz is unlikely to see action until he is 100 percent recovered from his calf injury. A major impact and snap count during Week 1 of the regular season is certainly up in the air at this point in time.
