Tom Brady reminds Drew Brees of when he smoked him in college

The New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints shared a practice field Wednesday, and while Tom Brady couldn't tune up for the season opener, he could practice some friendly trash talk.

Drew Brees said Brady remarked on how the rainy weather reminded him of their 1999 matchup in college, when Brady's Michigan Wolverines faced Brees' Purdue Boilermakers.

"The weather today was the exact same as it was for that game," Brees said. "Tom actually threw it out there. He said, `Hey, remember that game, Michigan-Purdue in the Big House?' It was just like it. They kind of smoked us that day, though."

Gee, maybe that's why Tom felt like bringing it up. For the record, the final score that day was Michigan 38, Purdue 12. Brady, who was sharing reps with Drew Henson, was 15 of 25 for 250 yards; Brees was 20 of 49 for 293 yards.

The Pats and Saints will open preseason play Thursday night. Brady will be eligible to play, though he's suspended for the first four games of the regular season. Backup Jimmy Garoppolo said he has no idea who's starting Thursday.
