Todd Bowles stands by Fitzpatrick, won't make QB change 'at this time'

The New York Jets fell to the Houston Texans, 24-17, in what was surely a disappointing loss for everyone in the organization. The defense was consistently torched by DeAndre Hopkins while the offense struggled to get on track at any point in the game.

Ryan Fitzpatrick's two late interceptions sealed it for the Texans, dropping the Jets back to .500 on the year. It's the second consecutive game that Fitzpatrick's struggled, throwing four interceptions in those two contests.

As poor as the Jets are playing, though, Todd Bowles won't overreact and jump ship for Geno Smith.

"Not at this time. We'll meet on all that stuff on Monday." Bowles said of changing quarterbacks, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. "I'm still committed to Ryan. I just don't think he played very well, just like a lot of other people on both sides of the ball."

Fitzpatrick displayed a great deal of toughness on his rushing touchdown, but he also showed his lack of awareness. After scrambling for a first down earlier in the game, Fitzpatrick (once again) decided not to slide and was hit from behind, fumbling the football. Fortunately, the Jets recovered the ball, but Fitzpatrick's reluctancy to slide has cost him on several occasions this season -- one of which led to his injured thumb.

"I didn't play well," Fitzpatrick said. "There were a lot of throws I needed to make that I didn't make. Obviously, having two chances there at the end and not coming up with a touchdown on one of those drives hurts."

It sounds like Bowles and the Jets will stand by Fitzpatrick, but with four losses in their last five games, time is running short on their playoff hopes.
