Titans' offense stalls in second half against Carolina

A week after a standout performance in an overtime win against the New Orleans Saints,  the Tennessee Titans' offense turned in a second half to forget in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

The Titans, who put up 34 points in the victory over New Orleans, entered the half against the Panthers trailing by a manageable 14-10 score.

In the second half, however, as the Tennessean notes, the Titans managed just three first downs and 76 yards of offense while failing to score. The team was only able to convert one of six third-down situations as well.

Among the errors included an interception by Carolina's Kurt Coleman on the Titans first possession of the third quarter and dropped pass by tight end Anthony Fasano on the next drive. Per the team's official website, Titans interim head coach Mike Mularkey attributed the interception to wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham not running full speed on the route.

“We knew coming in this would be a tough battle,’’ Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota said. “For us, I think we left a lot of points out there.  We didn’t get drives going.  Our defense played well enough for us to win.  It’s one of those days we didn’t execute.”

Tennessee will look to get its offense going once again on Thursday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
