Titans' McCourty doesn't envision move to safety

The Tennessee Titans may be in the market for a new safety this offseason, but cornerback Jason McCourty says it probably won't be him.

With Titans safety Michael Griffin entering the final season of his contract and carrying a high cap number for 2016, his future with the team is uncertain. That could create another hole to fill heading into next season. 

While McCourty's twin brother, Devin, made a successful transition to safety with the New England Patriots after being drafted as a corner, Jason McCourty said he doesn't see himself taking a similar route if a spot opens up in back of the Tennessee defensive backfield.

“Right now I envision myself as a corner, because that’s what I play," McCourty said. “If there was a situation that happened and it was in the best interest to help us win, and it lined up and all of that, I don’t have a problem with (changing positions). I am not an ego guy, so if that was in the best interest of the team, I don’t have a problem with that.

“But I honestly feel right now I am best suited at cornerback and can help this team most at cornerback.”

McCourty missed 12 games in 2015 with a groin injury, but he said he's fully healed entering the offseason. The 28-year-old's return should be a boost to a Titans' defense that gave up 30 or more points the last five weeks of season.
