Three ways Sam Bradford will struggle against Falcons

By L.M. Bedell

Sam Bradford is an accurate quarterback that can connect with wide receivers mid-field and down field. However, he has problems staying healthy.

He’s only played in seven games over the last two seasons with the St. Louis Rams. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles this year, and they have high hopes for him.

The Atlanta Falcons’ corners should harass and sack Sam Bradford, which will cause him to struggle. Here are three reasons why Bradford will have a rough first start with the Philadelphia Eagles:

Sam Bradford is rusty:

He’s been hurt during the past two seasons and has only played in seven games. He played during the preseason, but he’s not in mid-season form.

If there was ever an opportunity to throw the house at a quarterback, this is it. Bradford hasn’t seen a pass rush in a long time, let alone an all-out blitz. Look for Dan Quinn to hit the Eagles with everything he’s got.

Too many interceptions:

Bradford throws just as many interceptions as he throws touchdowns. During his last full season (2012), he threw 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

The funny thing is that people keep acting as if Bradford has been this great quarterback who’s simply fallen upon some bad luck with injuries; that’s not true. Bradford has under-performed since the day he was drafted, and there’s no reason to think he’s magically going to become better.

Offensive line issues:

The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line struggled last season. They allowed 32 sacks (Nick Foles-9, Mark Sanchez-23).

Right now, it is uncertain who will start at left guard, and their right tackle, Lane Johnson, is still improving.

The Falcons’ front seven has improved under Dan Quinn, and they should win the battle against the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line. Breakdown in the offensive line should allow Vic Beasley and Justin Durant open access to sack Sam Bradford.

Sam Bradford should thrive in Chip Kelley’s offense. However, it may take a couple seasons before Bradford is able to lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
