The Raiders should steer far away from Colin Kaepernick this offseason
Mark Davis was reportedly enamored with Colin Kaepernick before the 2011 NFL Draft.
He'll likely get his shot at the passer this offseason. And the Raiders owner should steer far clear.
Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave has tried -- and failed -- to tutor mobile quarterbacks. He's far more comfortable with passers like Derek Carr than passers like former pupil Michael Vick and Kaepernick.
Nothing would serve to undermine Carr's authority faster than a Kaepernick trade, too. The second-year quarterback is a team leader. Davis' team doesn't need another one.
Kaepernick's presence might not be so great for new No. 2 receiver Michael Crabtree. They thrived and wilted together in San Francisco; getting that duo back together could bring back Crabtree's bad tendencies.
Oakland might seek to upgrade its backup quarterback spot. But Kaepernick probably wants a shot to start elsewhere, so that's exactly where he should look.
