Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins ends holdout after just one day

Star Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins caused a stir at the opening of training camp Saturday when he began a holdout over his contract. But Sunday he grudgingly decided to put the whole thing to rest.

Hopkins issued a statement to ESPN ahead of a scheduled afternoon press conference:

Earlier Sunday, Texans general manager Rick Smith told reporters that Hopkins’ holdout wouldn’t change the team’s negotiating stance.

Hopkins, 24, led Houston with 111 catches, 1,521 receiving yards and 11 TD receptions last season but is set to earn a base salary of just $1 million this year before that number jumps to nearly $8 million in 2017.
