TE Eric Ebron dropping passes, battling jitters at Detroit Lions OTAs
Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron didn't quite live up to his draft-day potential during his rookie year. The 10th-overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft caught 25 passes for 248 yards and only one touchdown last season.
At OTA workouts, Ebron hasn't done much to shake the fast-approaching bust label. Kyle Meinke of MLive.com notes that the tight end dropped "at least three well-thrown balls" on Wednesday. Ebron tried to downplay the perceived lack of focus.
"I'll settle down," Ebron told MLive.com. "Today was a bit jittery, but I'll settle down and that'll never happen again."
According to Meinke's report, Ebron does 15 pushups each time he drops a ball. He also noted that Ebron stayed after practice to get some extra work in with the JUGS machine. Lions head coach Jim Caldwell has noticed a difference in his tight end.
"What I can see right now is the fact that he's in better shape than he was last year at this time, just in terms of his approach," Caldwell said, per MLive.com. "He's learning. I think they all kind of learn and develop as a pro. He's learned that aspect of it."
Consistency is the next step for Ebron to take. If his hands are unreliable, there's no way Ebron can develop into the pass-catcher Detroit drafted him to be.
