Super Bowl moment No. 37: James Washington turns the tide on the Bills
As we count down to Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, it's time to look back on the magical and memorable moments in the 49 previous Super Bowls. FOX Sports senior NFL writer Alex Marvez has ranked the 50 greatest moments in the big game's big history, and every weekday from now until Feb. 7 we'll unveil the latest addition to our countdown. Today, we look back at moment No. 37, when the Bills began to implode in Super Bowl XXVIII.
Leading Dallas 13-6, the Buffalo Bills took the second-half kickoff feeling confident they could avoid losing the Super Bowl for an unprecedented fourth consecutive season
That feeling quickly dissipated when Cowboys defensive back James Washington scooped up a Thurman Thomas fumble and dashed 46 yards for a touchdown.
A teary-eared Thomas described his mistake as "the biggest play of the game."
Said Washington afterward: "It seemed like I was running forever." Dallas scored 17 points overall off three turnovers produced by Washington, who had lost his starting safety job earlier in the season.
Here are highlights from Super Bowl XXVIII.
Final score: Dallas 30, Buffalo 13
One of the last times we'd see owner Jerry Jones and head coach Jimmy Johnson smiling together.
