Super Bowl moment No. 17: Adam Vinatieri comes through -- again

As we count down to Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, Calif., it's time to look back on the magical and memorable moments in the 49 previous Super Bowls. FOX Sports senior NFL writer Alex Marvez has ranked the 50 greatest moments in the big game's big history, and every weekday from now until Feb. 7 we'll unveil the latest addition to our countdown. Today, we look back at moment No. 17, when Adam Vinatieri clinched another Super Bowl victory for the New England Patriots on Feb. 1, 2004.

A huge mistake by one kicker led to heroics by another.

After Carolina had tied the score at 29-29 with 1:08 remaining in the game, Panthers kicker John Kasay booted the ensuing kickoff out of bounds to give New England possession on their own 40-yard line. The Patriots took advantage of such good field position by driving 37 yards in six plays, putting Adam Vinatieri in position for the game-winning 41-yard field goal with four seconds left.

The play marked the second time in three Super Bowls that Vinatieri hit the game-winning field goal in the closing moments for New England.

Final score: New England 32, Carolina 29
