Suh mum on freelancing report, says it's been addressed
Reports emerging in the wake of the inauspicious start to Ndamukong Suh’s Miami Dolphins career is that the high-priced, free agent signee has been ignoring the plays called and instead has opted to do a little freelancing. The defensive lineman, who signed a six-year, $114 million contract in the offseason, was mostly mum on the accusations when confronted by the media, instead deferring to Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin disputing the accuracy of the reports Monday.
“Coach Philbin addressed that and I will leave it at that,” Suh said.
Asked to explain following last Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars how he has had virtually no impact in his first two games in a Dolphins uniform, Suh couldn’t provide a reasonable explanation and seemingly took a veiled shot at the plays being called in from the sidelines.
“I couldn’t tell you,” he told the Miami Herald. “At the end of the day, we have to go back to the drawing board and figure out what we want to run so guys can make plays and go from there.”
In two games, Suh has totaled a paltry three combined tackles and little else. When asked about his early season struggles, Suh admitted it’s not what he envisioned.
“It’s still not quite where I want it to be,” Suh said before Wednesday’s practice. “Fundamentally, I just gotta get back into the sync of things and that’s what practice is for. Getting with the coaches and understanding my mistakes that I made and just get back to work.”
Suh obviously is a tremendously gifted player and a slow start in two games isn’t a reach for much alarm. But in the end, if he doesn’t start producing on the field, he can buy recliners for everyone in the organization, from the owner to the ball boys, and it won’t make his tenure in Miami any more pleasant. The last thing Suh wants to be considered is the next Albert Haynesworth, that’s for sure.
