Steelers teammate: Pouncey won't play

Pro Bowl rookie center Maurkice Pouncey is set to miss Super Bowl XLV (FOX pregame at 2 p.m. ET, kickoff at 6:29) with a high ankle sprain, one of his Pittsburgh Steelers teammate said Wednesday.

Steelers offensive guard Chris Kemoeatu told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: “We are definitely sad that (Pouncey) won’t be able to be with us in the Super Bowl.

“Definitely, I feel bad for him. We just have to win it for him.”

Pouncey was forced to exit Sunday's AFC Championship Game win against the New York Jets early with the injury.

He underwent an X-ray on Monday and was fitted for a cast, according to the Tribune-Review.

Pouncey, a 21-year-old out of Florida, will be replaced by Doug Legursky at center in the starting lineup for the game against the Green Bay Packers in Dallas on Feb. 6.

“We know how big this is for (Pouncey) and him not being able to play is definitely motivating for us to go out there and get that ring for him,” Kemoeatu added.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin did not address the media Wednesday.
