Steelers hire Lake to coach DBs

Former Steelers safety and cornerback Carnell Lake has been hired as Pittsburgh's new defensive backs coach, the team announced on Monday.

Lake retired from the NFL in 2001 following two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (1999-00) and one with the Baltimore Ravens (2001). He played for the Steelers from 1989-98.

A second-round draft choice by the Steelers in 1989, Lake made the Pro Bowl four times and finished with 16 interceptions in a Steelers uniform. His 16 fumble recoveries are fourth overall in franchise history.

Lake was an outside linebacker for UCLA, and was a first-team all-America selection as a senior in 1988.
