Sources: Lions DE Ziggy Ansah undergoes shoulder surgery

Detroit Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah underwent shoulder surgery in Los Angeles earlier this month, sources told FOXSports.com.

Ansah, who dealt with a lingering shoulder issue during the last four games of the year, is expected to be ready by the start of the 2014 season.

“Young people heal quickly,” the source said.

Ansah first sustained an injury in Week 14 against the Eagles. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive end played in the remaining three games of the season, but wasn’t nearly as productive.

The Lions selected Ansah No. 5 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, Ansah played in 14 games, racking up 32 tackles (seven for loss), eight sacks and forcing two fumbles.
