Source: Texans to start Mallett over Hoyer in Week 2

After just one week, it appears Brian Hoyer's time as starting quarterback of the Houston Texans is over.

FS1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirmed that the Texans have decided to start Ryan Mallett in the team's Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Hoyer won the job in training camp, but struggled in last Sunday's season-opening 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The veteran was 18 of 34 for 236 yards, with one touchdown, one interception and one fumble. He was also sacked four times before being pulled in the fourth quarter in favor of Mallett.

Houston head coach Bill O'Brien was noncommittal about the team's quarterback situation earlier in the week, telling reporters they'd have to wait until the first snap of Sunday's game to see who was starting.

Mallett went 8 of 13 for 98 yards and a touchdown in relief of Hoyer against Kansas City.
