Source: Giants officials leave Miami without seeing Pierre-Paul
The Giants are aware of an incident involving Jason Pierre-Paul and fireworks, but the team is unsure about the severity of any injuries to the star defensive end.
Team officials flew to Miami to visit with the defensive end, but were unable to see him, FOX Sports 1's NFL insider Mike Garafolo reports citing a source.
Garafolo notes that former Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead, who is now a special assistant and consultant for the organization, joined team trainer Ronnie Barnes in attempting to see Pierre Paul.
Barnes and Armstead were both told that Pierre-Paul doesn't want to see anyone, Garafolo reported.
The Giants pulled a $60 million long-term contract offer to the defensive end following this weekend's events on Monday, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. Though, New York Post's Mark Cannizzaro was told by a source that the report was "100 percent false."
Pierre-Paul was to play 2015 on the $14.8 million franchise tag. But the two-time Pro Bowl pick has yet to sign the tender. The Giants can rescind the tender offer and make Pierre-Paul an unrestricted free agent. He's earned more than $16 million in his first five seasons.
Pierre-Paul mentioned fireworks in a video posted to Instagram on Saturday, taken as he held a baby in a street near a parked rental van.
"Talk about fireworks on the ground," Pierre-Paul said.
Selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft, Pierre-Paul didn't start any games his rookie season. He had a breakout year in 2011, posting a career-high 16 1/2 sacks and playing a key role in helping the Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
The 26-year-old Pierre-Paul has 42 career sacks, including 12 1/2 last season.
