Source: Broncos expected to name Kubiak next head coach

The Denver Broncos are zeroing in on their next head coach.

Kubiak, who was the offensive coordinator in Baltimore this past season, would become the franchise's 15th head coach.

Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and former Bills head coach Doug Marrone both cancelled their interviews last week.

Kubiak coached the Houston Texans for eight seasons before a 2-14 campaign in 2013 that led to his firing.

Vice President of Football Operations John Elway has plenty of experience with Kubiak as the two played on the same team from 1983-91. Years later, Kubiak served as Elways' offensive coordinator in Denver.

Kubiak’s work with quarterback Joe Flacco allowed the seventh-year quarterback to enjoy a career year.

“The biggest difference I see in Flacco is his improved pocket awareness,” an AFC personnel director told FOXSports.com in December. “Also Kubiak is a very good teacher, and I think he has him focused on the details if you look at his reads and footwork.”

Kubiak also reinfused Baltimore's running game led by journeyman Justin Forsett.
