Sebastian Janikowski nominated for Clutch Performer of the Week
Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski has been nominated for a weekly award, the Castrol EDGE Clutch Performer of the Week, thanks to his performance in Week 15.
Another week, another comeback victory, and another member of the Oakland Raiders who has been nominated for an award — once again, the Castrol EDGE Clutch Performer of the Week. This time, it wasn’t Derek Carr or Khalil Mack who earned the nomination, it was 17-year veteran Sebastian Janikowski.
Janikowski was outstanding on Sunday, converting all four of his field goal attempts, plus an extra point. His 44-yard field goal with 2:40 left in the game gave the Raiders the lead, and would prove to be the game-winning points that clinched the team’s first playoff berth since 2002.
It’s fitting that the last time the Raiders were in the playoffs, Janikowski was on the team, and now, he helped clinch a playoff berth thanks to a big game that included a late go-ahead field goal.
The award is determined by a fan vote, and if Raider Nation shows out and votes for Seabass like they showed out at the Chargers game, he’ll win in a landslide.
Derek Carr has won this award four times already this year, Amari Cooper won it once, as did Khalil Mack. So this could be the seventh time a Raider wins this award this season alone. The Chargers and Buccaneers have the second most wins, at two each.
