Sean Payton Throws Shade at Gregg Williams After Saints Crush Rams
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton had a little fun at the expense of Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams didn’t have the best homecoming when he returned to the Superdome for the first time in Week 12. New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton didn’t take it easy on his former coordinator, either.
During the game, the New Orleans Saints’ PA system played The Lion King song “The Circle of Life,” which was obviously a reference to Williams returning to his old stomping grounds.
That return was marred by a Rams defense that gave up 555 total yards and 49 points. Things were bad enough for Williams with the game result alone.
Saints head coach Sean Payton savagely tweeted out a video of the song after the 49-21 Week 12 win:

Way to dig the knife a little deeper, eh?
Williams was the defensive coordinator for the Saints’ Super Bowl XLIV victory, but was also the DC for the team’s bounty scandal. He was suspended indefinitely by the league at one point and was later reinstated.
It was uncharacteristic for the defense to play this bad. The Rams had allowed just 12.5 points per game over their last four contests; however the Saints are capable of this in any game they play at home.
Still, it shouldn’t have been this bad, right?
On the bright side the Rams got a solid first half effort from Jared Goff. He threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns before waning in the second half when he couldn’t produce points. It certainly didn’t help that Goff had to dig his team out of a huge hole from the third quarter on.
