Seahawks, Wilson reportedly 'very close' to new extension
Russell Wilson could be on the verge of a historic deal.
The Seattle Seahawks and their franchise quarterback are "very close" to a contract extension, ESPN reported Friday.
Wilson, who has helped the Seahawks reach consecutive Super Bowls, is entering the final year of his rookie deal. He has made the Pro Bowl in two of his first three years in the league and guided Seattle to its first Super Bowl title in 2014.
The deal reportedly could be fully guaranteed, which would give Wilson financial security but possibly offer less overall money nonguaranteed contracts contain. That kind of deal would help Seattle's salary-cap situation. Outside of signing bonuses, NFL contracts rarely contain much guaranteed money, providing teams more financial flexibility.
Wilson hasn't missed a game during his three-year career, and has increased his passing yardage while lowering his interception totals each season.
