Seahawks' Carroll hopeful Wagner returns; Lockett iffy with hip injury
Seattle Seahawks middle linebacker Bobby Wagner has a chance to play in Thursday night's game at the San Francisco 49ers after sitting out Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers.
“He could have gone out there (Sunday) but it wasn’t the right thing to do," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on his weekly radio show of the decision to sit Wagner. “We’re hoping in these next couple of days that would make the difference. If he played (against Carolina) he would have no chance of playing Thursday."
But while Carroll is hopeful Wagner returns to the starting lineup against the 49ers, he is unsure about the status of explosive rookie Tyler Lockett, who is dealing with a hip injury.
Lockett is sixth in the league in kickoff returns at 26.5 yards per game and already has a 105-yard touchdown. The third-round draft pick out of Kansas State also brought back a punt for a touchdown.
Center Patrick Lewis' status for Thursday also is in doubt after he underwent MRI exams on both his ankle and knee.
