Scout who played key role in drafting Flacco leaving Ravens for Bears

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome is losing one of his key personnel people. 

National scout Joe Douglas is taking a job with the Bears as their college scouting director, the team announced Friday. 

Douglas has been with the Ravens organization for 15 years. His most important contribution will likely be the discovery of Joe Flacco before anyone really knew of the strong-armed passed at Delaware. Douglas also helped scout Ray Rice and Lardarius Webb, in addition to coordinating the undrafted free-agent signing process. 

"Everybody loves and respects the guy," said Ravens senior personnel assistant George Kokinis before this year's draft. "You never hear a bad word about Joe even though he's under the radar. He never puts himself out there for as good a scout as he is."

This marks the second swipe of a Raven for new Bears general manager Ryan Pace. Earlier this offseason, he signed Pernell McPhee to a five-year deal worth nearly $40 million.
