RG3 is one step closer to being released by the Redskins

Robert Griffin III is healthy -- and that means his days with the Redskins are numbered.

According to NFL Network's Albert Breer, RG3 passed his exit physical, which essentially allows the Redskins to cut him without any issues.

Kirk Cousins took hold as the Redskins starter this past season, but he's a free agent. Washington could elect to use the franchise tag to keep him, but that would balloon his salary out of game-manager territory. The Redskins would prefer to sign Cousins to a manageable long-term deal.

Until that happens, we may not hear about RG3, whose $16.9 million fifth-year option becomes fully guaranteed on March 9 when the new league year starts.

Cousins had a career year, throwing for 4,166 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 interceptions, while leading the Redskins to the NFC East crown. Griffin didn't play a regular-season down in 2015.
