Reports: Panthers reward coach Ron Rivera with a 1-year extension, raise

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has received a one-year contract extension and a raise that will increase his pay to more than $6 million per year, the Charlotte Observer first reported Thursday.

In total, the new deal is reportedly worth $19.5 mllion over three years and will keep him signed through the 2018 season. He also now ranks among the NFL's 10 highest paid coaches.

Rivera led his team to an NFL-best 15-1 record in the regular season and to the Super Bowl last season, earning multiple coach of the year honors.

In five years with the Panthers, Rivera is 47-32-1 and has won three consecutive NFC South titles. He is 6-3 in the postseason and also was named AP Coach of the Year following the 2013 season.
