Jason Pierre-Paul is still holding out and has not signed his franchise tender, but that could have as much to do with his injured hand as it does his unhappiness with the contract. With just over two weeks remaining until the start of the regular season, Pierre-Paul could be getting ready to report to New York Giants training camp.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Pierre-Paul’s rehab in the wake of his fireworks mishap is “progressing very well.” He is expected to report to the Giants before the start of the season, but it is unclear if he has a chance to suit up for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Pierre-Paul has remained relatively quiet since he lost a finger over the 4th of July weekend, and the Giants have had trouble getting in touch with him. The team has not rescinded the $14.8 million franchise offer, so JPP is free to sign it and return at any point. There has been speculation that he is waiting until he can pass a physical so the Gaints can’t place him on the non-football injury list and get out of paying him for the first six weeks of the season.

If Pierre-Paul can pass a physical and is doing well in rehab, the Giants would likely want him on the field, anyway. The funny tweet he sent over the weekend could be an indication that JPP is getting ready to face the music, so to speak.
