Report: J.J. Watt re-injures back, expected to miss extended time

Houston Texans star J.J. Watt has re-injured his back and is expected to miss extended time and possibly the season, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Watt underwent back surgery in July to repair a herniated disk. In the offseason, he repaired five torn or partially torn groin and abdominal muscles.

The Texans are trying to learn more about the injury, which Rapoport notes may have occurred against the Patriots last week.

Watt has played in the first three games of the season. Most recently, he faced off against the Chicago Bears where he recorded one tackle and three quarterback hits in 49 snaps.

Before this season, Watt did not miss a game in his first five seasons.

The Texans face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
