Report: Giants reached out to Leonard Williams for draft day phone number

Before I go on, I must caution you to take every draft rumor from this point on with a grain of salt. This is the misinformation season in fast forward and multiplied by two times. Having said that, an interesting New York Giants rumor has surfaced.

Sam Farmer of the LA Times reported that defensive line prospect Leonard Williams has told him that the Giants have reached out for a phone number to contact him on draft day.

Williams, out of USC, is viewed by many as the best defensive prospect and the best overall prospect in the entire 2015 draft. His potential draft day slide is tied to question marks about his ability to consistently rush the passer, but also to how the board broke. Several teams selecting in the top five are already stocked along the interior defensive line.

The Giants have never traded up in the first round of the draft under Jerry Reese. However, there have been reports that Reese tried to trade up once for Darrelle Revis and once for Darrius Heyward-Bey. If Williams' draft day slide prolongs for even longer than expected, the Giants could end that streak.
