Report: Falcons sign former Chiefs DT Dontari Poe to one-year deal

The Atlanta Falcons surprised everyone and made it all the way to the Super Bowl. While they would have liked to win that game, they’re completely loaded for the 2017 season.

On Thursday, as first reported by ProFootballTalk, the falcons signed former Chiefs defensive tackle Dontari Poe.

Per NFL Network, the deal is for one year and $8 million.

Poe had a down year in 2016, struggling to get back to the form from the 2014 season. He recorded just 27 tackles and 1.5 sacks after sacking the quarterback six times three seasons ago.

He’ll fit nicely in Atlanta, though, next to Grady Jarrett on the interior. That gives Atlanta two defensive tackles who can both stuff the run and get after the quarterback, which should open up even more opportunities for Vic Beasley on the edge.

At $8 million, Poe isn’t a bargain, but it does allow the Falcons to see how he does for one year before handing him big-time money.
