Report: Falcons Pro Bowl CB Desmond Trufant needs season-ending surgery

At 6-4, the Atlanta Falcons are in control of the NFC South despite losing three of their last five. They’ve faltered a bit and have struggled on defense, but things won’t get any better on that side of the ball.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, top cornerback Desmond Trufant has a pectoral injury that will require season-ending surgery.

Trufant suffered the injury in Week 9 against the Buccaneers. He then sat out the following week before Atlanta’s Week 11 bye.

Trufant’s absence will not just be felt on Sunday when the Falcons face the high-octane Cardinals, but it’ll be a big blow down the stretch. He’s by far their best cornerback and possibly their best defender. Trufant made his first Pro Bowl last season.
