Report: Eyewitness says Jets QB Geno Smith 'deserved' to be punched

When the story first broke about Geno Smith getting sucker punched in the locker room by teammate IK Enemkpali, most were on the quarterback's side. That's not to say that has changed, but as witnesses speak out about the altercation, it appears as though Smith was instigating it.

Smith reportedly owed Enemkpali $600 for a flight and limos to a football camp for kids, but backed out at the last minute due to the death of his brother's friend.

It's also now being reported that Smith "deserved it," according to an eyewitness who was at the scene of the punch.

"[Smith] was up in [Enemkpali’s] face and pointed/touched his face," a source told the New York Daily News.

"Geno deserved it," another source said.

Regardless of what Smith did or said to Enemkpali, it likely didn't warrant being punched in the face and having your jaw broken in two places. No one will defend Enemkpali's actions, but Smith doesn't seem to be completely innocent either.

While Smith is sidelined for six to 10 weeks, Enemkpali has already been claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills and is likely to play in Friday's preseason game.
