Report: Ex-Eagles OG Evan Mathis wanted $3M raise
We may finally have a better idea why the Philadelphia Eagles released all-pro Evan Mathis, despite the fact that he was planning to show up at the team's mini-camp this past week. Head coach Chip Kelly admitted that Mathis' release was a "money issue", and a source familiar with the contract talks told True Jersey that Mathis was looking for a $3 million raise.
The raise would have paid Mathis $8.5 million for the 2015 season, and it would have made him the highest paid guard in the NFL. Now on the open market, Mathis is likely searching for a similar payday from another team. The Eagles have moved on, and they will start Allen Barbre in his place at left guard for a whole lot cheaper.
