Report: Dallas Cowboys host free-agent QB Josh McCown for a visit

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to part ways with Tony Romo, who will likely be cut or traded in the coming weeks. It’s a move that has been a long time coming, simply based on the fact that Dak Prescott is the future at quarterback and Romo is too expensive to keep as a backup.

Do you know who’s cheaper than Romo? Josh McCown – a guy the Cowboys considered trading for last year when Romo got injured. As it turns out, the Cowboys are reportedly hosting McCown for a  Wednesday visit, according to multiple reports.

McCown, 37, is actually older than Romo. However, he’s considered to be more durable and a much cheaper option. With the Browns the last two seasons, he threw for 3,209 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

His cap hit was just $5 million last season, which is about the same amount as the Cowboys will save by releasing Romo. A visit doesn’t mean anything is imminent, but he’s clearly a player the Cowboys believe can be a reliable backup to Prescott.
