Report: Bucs to move Bruce Carter to strongside linebacker

While it was reported that rookie Kwon Alexander will be starting at middle linebacker, the question was immediately posed as to what role Bruce Carter would play. Apparently, we now have an answer to that.

As Pat Yasinskas of ESPN reports, the Bucs are going to be moving Carter to strongside linebacker. That obviously doesn't mean that he'll be handed the starting job, as that role is currently Danny Lansanah's to lose.

Regardless, it should make for a great battle between Carter and Lansanah, and Lovie Smith spoke on the entire situation.

"It's not like we're displeased with what Bruce is doing," coach Lovie Smith told Yasinskas. "We're just really like what Kwon has done. Bruce now, as you've seen in practice, he's working at the Sam linebacker position and he's fighting for a starting position there. We need all of our linebackers. For us, we had to get to the [preseason opener] to see exactly what everybody's best position is. So for Bruce, he's working hard like he always has been. He's a big part of what we're going to do this year."

Time to watch another great preseason positional battle unfold.
