Report: 49ers interviewing Mike Vrabel for defensive coordinator job

The San Fransisco 49ers are set to meet with Houston Texans assistant Mike Vrabel about the team's defensive coordinator position, according to a report.

Via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Vrabel, who has coached linebackers with the Texans for the past two seasons, will interview on Tuesday.

Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus had a career-high 12 sacks under Vrabel tutelage in 2015, while middle linebacker Brian Cushing had his best season since 2011, leading the team with 110 sacks.

Prior to joining the Texans, Vrabel spent three seasons as an assistant at Ohio State.

Vrabel played 14 seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs, winning three Super Bowls as a member of the Patriots.
