Ravens starting Ryan Mallett at quarterback vs. Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens are giving Ryan Mallett his audition Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers to be next year's backup quarterback.

Mallett, who signed a two-year deal with Baltimore less than two weeks ago, will get the nod over Jimmy Clausen, who is inactive after starting the last two games -- both losses. Matt Schaub, who missed the last two games with a chest injury, will serve as Mallett's backup.

The strong-armed Mallett started four games with the Houston Texans earlier this season, but fell out of favor after showing up late to practices and then was cut Oct. 27 after missing a team flight to Miami.

Of the three healthy quarterbacks on the roster, only Malllett is under contract for next season. An impressive performance over the next two games could solidify the former third-round pick out of Arkansas as Joe Flacco's backup next season.
