Ravens' Lewis hints at retirement date

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, in an interview on NFL Network earlier this week, said he could not see himself playing football past 37, The Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

The 12-time Pro Bowl linebacker, who turns 36 next month, made the statement in response to the question of whether he would stick around long enough to play with his son Ray Lewis III, who is a sophomore in high school.

"That's another four years!" Lewis responded, according to The Sun. "Nah. Because I'm real with myself, that would be a very hard task. I can't see myself playing football past 37."

The seven-time All-Pro is considered one of the fiercest linebackers in the history of the game. Lewis has led Baltimore's defense in tackles 13 out of 15 seasons, including each of the last five campaigns.

The future Hall of Famer's current contract runs through the 2015 season.
