Rams won't renew contracts for Garcia, 4 others

ST. LOUIS (AP) The St. Louis Rams will not renew contracts of five assistant coaches including Jeff Garcia, who lasted one year as an offensive assistant.

Others who won't be back are wide receivers coach Ray Sherman, running backs coach Ben Sirmans, assistant strength and conditioning coach Adam Bailey and assistant special teams coach Paul F. Boudreau.

Earlier in the week, coach Jeff Fisher said he hadn't made a decision whether he'd stick with Rob Boras as offensive coordinator. The Rams finished 3-1 after Boras replaced Frank Cignetti.

''I thought Rob jumped in and took advantage of a very, very difficult situation,'' Fisher said. ''Rob certainly is deserving of an opportunity to take this over because I thought he did a really good job.''

The Rams had the worst offense in the NFL and finished 7-9, their 12th season in a row without a winning record. Coach Jeff Fisher will be back for a fifth season despite a 27-36-1 record.

Rookie Todd Gurley made the Pro Bowl and was third in the league in rushing, but wide receivers struggled with Kenny Britt leading the way with 681 yards.

Garcia worked primarily with Sherman in his first NFL coaching season after going to four Pro Bowls as a quarterback.

Bailey had been with the team for five seasons. Sherman, Sirmans and Boudreau, son of offensive line coach Paul Boudreau, had been with St. Louis for four seasons.
