Rams' DE Long to have surgery, will miss about two months
St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher announced that defensive end Chris Long will have surgery on his injured ankle this week. A source has told FOX Sports 1 NFL Insider Mike Garafolo that Long is expected to miss about two months.
Long suffered the injury during the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He was spotted moving slowly in the locker room after the game, but the team didn't disclose the severity of the injury until more tests were conducted.
The Rams are considering placing Long on the injured reserve/designated to return list as the latter recovers.
William Hayes or Eugene Sims will most likely get the start at defensive end this week.
However, Long's presence in the lineup will be sorely missed. He has led the Rams in quarterback pressure for six consecutive seasons and has 50.5 career sacks.
The Rams already lost starting quarterback Sam Bradford to an ACL injury during the preseason.
