Raiders-to-San Diego in 2017 or 2018 would be a power move

A rumored Raiders-San Diego marriage is enough to make Philip Rivers feel sick.

Plenty of Oaklandites agree. And it's precisely why owner Mark Davis should seriously consider moving his team down there.

Nothing would make his late father prouder than that power move. The Raiders would play in enemy territory, offering San Diegans a team to root for and jobs to work. 

All the pressure to retain the team long-term would shift back to mayor Libby Schaaf. That could be just what Davis needs to earn more public funding for a Bay Area home. 

In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to foster more Californian support -- all under the guise of building a permanent home there, in Los Angeles, in San Antonio, or elsewhere.
