Raiders pick Dennis Allen as head coach

Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie has found a new head coach, FOXSports.com has learned.

Former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has reached an agreement to lead the Silver and Black in the 2012 season, but contract details still must be hammered out.

Allen informed the Broncos on Tuesday he was taking the Raiders' head-coaching position. The Broncos hired Allen as defensive coordinator exactly a year ago to the day. Allen had previous coaching experience with the New Orleans Saints' secondary unit.

McKenzie was hired as Raiders GM on Jan. 7 and, only days later, fired Hue Jackson as head coach. It was presumed McKenzie would recruit a staff member from the Green Bay Packers.

Allen becomes the first Raiders head coach with a defensive background since the late Al Davis promoted John Madden from linebackers coach in 1969.
