QB Weeden to weigh options, hoping to return to Houston
Houston Texans backup quarterback Brandon Weeden is set to be a free agent in March, but says he'd welcome a return to Houston after experiencing late-season success with the team.
Weeden led the Texans to pair of wins playing in place of the injured Brian Hoyer and T.J. Yates, including the team's Week 15 win over the Indianapolis. That victory paved the way for Houston to clinch the AFC South title for the first time since 2012.
In two games with Houston. Weeden completed 26 of 42 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.
The 32-year-old Weeden joined the Texans on Nov. 18, a day after being released by the Dallas Cowboys. Weeden was winless in three starts for Dallas before being cut, but found more success in Houston.
If he returns, Weeded would be part of a quarterback picture that currently includes Hoyer, who struggled in the team's playoff loss the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, and 2014 fourth-round pick Tom Savage, who missed the entire season with a shoulder injury.
Yates suffered a torn ACL in the Dec. 20 win over the Colts and is a free agent as well.
